- SOLAR ECLIPSE ON APRIL 8 On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will pass through the United States. Durham will see 79.57% of this eclipse. The partial event will begin at 1:58 p.m., peak at 3:15 p.m., and end at 4:29 p.m. It is NOT SAFE to look directly at the sun during this time. Please review this document for more information, including safe viewing practices. Contact Dr. Hogans with any questions.
- Teachers (K-5)–Framework for Promotion/Retention Decisions-Report Cards are scheduled to be distributed the week of April 8. For students whose performance may signal them as potential candidates for retention recommendation, please send home this letter with student report card and forward a copy to Dr. Hogans. As you continue to support student performance through the final quarter, consider these interventions as a part of Tier 2 and Tier 3 support plans for student progress. (FYI: Note that students the current letter should have also received this letter in January.)
- Wellness Day, April 26, 2024
- Sessions are planned from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on topics such as Employee Wellness, Employee Benefits, and Financial Planning.
- Additionally, beginning April 21, 2024, the N.C. State Health Plan has a free 15-week weight loss program called Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less that employees can access. Let your employees know in your school or department meetings!
- Professional Learning Days Please note DPS’ upcoming Professional Learning (PL) days.
- All Staff-Forms Submission– Please use only the most recently revised versions of district forms. Additionally, submit forms free of cross-outs, edits, and white out. For field trip requests, use the blue Day Field Trip Approval Form that the District created and for leave requests, use the most current Leave Request Form. Paper copies of both documents are located in the wooden forms organizer at the left of the entrance of the breakroom. This will help Little River to remain consistent in our bookkeeping reports and there is no risk of leaving off any valuable/important information.

Sunday Bulletin:
Good evening Beavers! This is Ms. Moose for Principal Hogans with some notes for this week.
- PTO will meet this Monday at 6pm in the school media center. All are welcome!
- Tomorrow a total solar eclipse will pass through the United States. Durham will see a portion of this eclipse as it will begin at 1:58 p.m., peak at 3:15 p.m., and end at 4:29 p.m. Although the start of the eclipse occurs during our end of day process and after school, please note that it is NOT SAFE to look directly at the sun during this time. Please see Dr. Hogans’ Weekly Update tomorrow on our school website for safe viewing practices.
- This Friday elementary students will participate in our annual Field Day! We thank those of you who are planning to volunteer to help with this event!
- A special note for current third and fourth grade parents: as we plan for district changes due to Growing Together, look for an intent survey this week asking your plans for the 2024-2025 school year. This will help us with planning classes for next school year.
- There is still time to order a school year book. If you are still looking to purchase, there will be a ‘Last Chance’ announcement coming to you soon!
- Lastly, the PTO Spring Book Fair is coming soon! More information to come soon!
That is all for now. Please note that there will be no school on Wednesday due to teacher work day. School will resume on Thursday. And remember: it is with your help we ‘bridge’ home and school for our students!
