FBB #18

The River Way, Every Day!

Updates for the week of Dec 12, 2022

Put First Things First –

Habit 4: Think Win-Win- people work effectively and efficiently with others to achieve optimal results. Competitive and selfish behaviors  produce win-lose or even lose-lose outcomes. A win-win mentality is a balancing act between courage and consideration that ensures true collaboration taking place in all conflicts.

  • Little Shops Vendor Show at Little River, December 10, 1 – 5pm, over 50 local vendors participating!

  • Staff Meeting (December 14): The agenda for our scheduled December staff meeting will be holiday themed. We will gather for general announcements for fifteen minutes and then for the remaining duration go into community activity for those interested in participating. (Those not participating may be dismissed from the staff meeting.) We will move the original agenda of sharing out grade/program level WIG’s to our January staff meeting (January 25).

  • Thank you for submitting your Leadership Grant ideas! If your team needs more time to develop your proposal, please let Dr. Hogans know.

  • Staff Intent for 2023-2024: All staff please complete Staff Intent form 2023-2024. This is a nonbinding survey designed to help in planning for 2023-2024 and for planning in the opening of the Montessori program in 2024-2025. Please complete by December 15.

  • Thank you teachers and staff for your help and support with Benchmark administration this past week! Kudos to Ms. Kinder and Mr. Crutchfield on the school plan!

  • Safety: several school safety stories have been reported in the media recently. A hoax audio recording was sent to law enforcement agencies in multiple locations including Durham and Raleigh alleging a shooting incident on a school campus. A school shooting incident occurred this past week in Wake County. You may be fielding school safety questions from parents and perhaps students. Share that Little River, as with all schools, does have a Safe Schools Plan to respond to a variety of scenarios. Further, please ensure your adherence to school safety protocols like keeping your doors locked at all times, ensuring that your emergency plan rosters are up-to-date, and overviewing drill protocols with your students in an age appropriate, developmentally responsive manner.

Sunday Bulletin:

Good evening Beavers! This is Ms. Moose for Principal Hogans with some notes for this week.

  • We thank you for your support of our PTO Little Shops event yesterday. We hope you had a great time. Thank you also to those of you who came out to the PTO meeting last week as well as those who bought dinner at Alpaca on Tuesday evening. We appreciate your support of the school.

  • This Wednesday evening several of our chorus students will perform  in the Northern Durham Chorus Collaboration with Northern High School, and Lucas and Carrington Middle Schools at Northern High School. We hope you can come out and support this student performance.

  • Also, for parents of students readying to take the ACCESS assessment later in the year, please be reminded of the preparation academies scheduled to begin this upcoming Saturday. Contact Dr. Hogans for more information.

  • Lastly, it’s that time of year to donate to our annual Operation Hope program: We are taking donations for New Undergarments (Underwear, T – shirts, Socks) and Gently Used Clothing (Pants, Shirts, Sweaters) for those in our community who may be experiencing homelessness. Bins are placed at the front lobby of the school to receive contributions.

That is all for now. And remember: after replanting our seeds in Beaver Nation, Little River leaders are ready to blossom!
