  • Wednesday, November 23 is a built in Annual Leave day for 10 month staff. No leave form needs to be submitted for this day by 10 month staff. However, this day is a work day for 11 & 12 month staff. Eleven and 12 month staff must submit a leave form for this day if taking leave.

  • Teachers (3-8) Case 21 Benchmark 1 windows (“MOY”) 

    • Traditional CALENDAR (Yearlong COURSES) = December 5-13

    • There will be a called staff meeting of staff to be involved in Benchmark testing the week of November 28. The purpose of this meeting will be to prepare for the Benchmark. Look for notice soon.

  • DURHAM COUNTY LIBRARY RESOURCES FOR ALL DPS STUDENTS & STAFF The Durham County Library offers several resources to support teachers, students, and families.

    • Bull City Slam Account- (ENG/ESP) DPS students have Durham County Library cards with their NCEdCloud user ID.  Students should see their school media coordinator to activate their Bull City Slam account. All DPS teachers can get a Bull City Slam account with their NCEdCloud user ID by visiting the Durham County Library Main Branch.

    • Brainfuse Tutoring– (ENG/ESP) DPS students can access online tutoring and homework help using their Durham County Library Card or Bull City Slam Account.

    •  CultureGram– (ENG/ESP) DPS students and staff also have access to CultureGram, a leading reference resource for reliable cultural information on the countries of the world.

  • SORA- EBOOK ACCESS FOR ALL DPS STUDENTS & STAFF All DPS students and staff have access to ebooks, audio books, and magazines via SORA website or mobile app by using your DPS google account login. For additional guidance see SORA guides.

  • Professional Learning Dates for December There are 2 separate professional learning dates for teachers (and IAs) during December on the traditional calendar. December 20 is a professional learning date for teachers (and IAs). December 21 is an optional teacher workday. All traditional teachers will have Quarter 3 curriculum unpacking sessions on December 20, 2022. At-A-Glance documents of professional learning will be released the last week of November for each professional learning day, and staff can always find professional learning using the PL Catalog. 

  • (Instructional Assistants/Teacher Assistants) Professional Learning for Instructional Assistants! The Office of Equity and Professional Development is working to create meaningful professional learning for Instructional assistants at all levels.  To help with this task, please complete this link (instructional assistants) to help us determine what they would like to learn.  

  • Teachers (K-3) mCLASS MOY TRAINING On December 7th from 3:30 – 4:30pm, Amplify will offer a webinar to help teachers prepare for a successful MOY administration using the mCLASS tools. Teachers can register here.

  • Political Neutrality in the Classroom Teachers are invited to a professional development program from UNC and NC State University Philosophy departments to equip educators to confront America’s “knowledge crisis”.    Participants will have the opportunity to think through dilemmas of educational practice that arise when teaching about politically contentious topics, such as the history and legacy of American racism or gender identity.   Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all participants.     • Time: 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

    • Location: Poe Hall, NC State University (2310 Katharine Stinson Dr., Raleigh, NC 

  • DPS Soft-Launches Mobile App Families, students, and community members can now get DPS news and information via smart phones and other mobile devices with the district’s new mobile app. The app will soft launch this weekend at the Showcase of Schools but is available for download for your review now. In addition to district news and updates, app users can customize the app by selecting schools for direct information and communication.  The app supports Priority 4 of DPS’s Strategic Plan by enhancing communication with district stakeholders. It is available in the Apple App and Google Play stores by searching for “Durham Public Schools.

  • Homebase Maintenance Weekend The PowerSchool application will be brought down, Friday, November 18, 2022, and returned to service by 7am Monday morning, November 21, 2022.  The application will be made accessible to all users once maintenance is complete.

  • Weekend/Afterhours Access-November 23-27

    • The building will be closed November 23-27.
